Weekdays at the bakery always seemed so slow; especially when there wasn’t a Hogsmeade weekend coming up in the near future. The mornings were usually busy, with the regulars coming in for coffee and pastries, and this morning someone from the Ministry came by to pick up two dozen cupcakes to celebrate someone’s birthday. But around 11:00 or so, things tended to die down.

dip it in a dream❞
At the moment, Jericho found himself alone in his bakery. The displays were about half full and he still had a few more hours to fill them the rest of the way before the end of work rush, when everyone stopped by on their way home from work to grab some treats for the kiddos. At the moment he was studiously hunched over the counter in the back of the shop, carefully shaping colorful dough into macarons. This batch was going to be lemon with a blueberry filling, one of his most popular selling cookies. The baker hated to brag, but he made the best macarons in the Wizarding world. It always surprised his customers, the delicate cookies quite the contrast to his tall stature and large hands, but they were one of his most popular products.
They also happened to be one of his daughter’s favorite treats. Making them always reminded him of lazy summer afternoons, when Lola spent time with him at work and together they came up with new flavor combinations or had competitions to see who could make the most unique but delicious flavors. She usually won. Jericho was good at execution, but Lola was always brilliant when it came to ideas. Godric, he missed her. Even though he technically only lived about fifteen minutes away from Hogwarts, he only got to see her on holidays or Hogsmeade weekends, which always felt few and far between. Glancing up at a picture of the two of them having a tea party when Lola was five, her with a mermaid tail and him with a tiara on his bald head, he smiled to himself and softly started singing a song from her favorite movie that year. “I want to be where the people are…”
