Michael had found that his work at the Ministry had given him a purpose, one thing he felt he had lost when he left school. In his line of work he was able to research and learn on the job, something which he had always enjoyed at school. Although he was full of himself most the time, he knew his job was something that kept him somewhat grounded. Having delved into the darker wizarding world in his youth, he knew he was destined for something more, not just picking up dodgy jobs for regulars at the White Wyvern.
“Wouldn’t that be lovely,” Michael said with a slight laugh. Did any job come without the burden of someone you had to answer to? Brendan seemed naive. “I’m not sure if you get the world of work. There’s always someone who is higher than you. You just need to keep on their good side.” Even his supervisor had a supervisor. “I get it though.” Michael hated being told what to do, in life he had his own rules but he had learnt very quickly that sometimes you had to ‘conform’ if you wanted to get anywhere.
Michael rolled his eyes when Brendan said he wanted to be an Auror. Of course, that was what every little boy wanted to do. Having had some bad experiences with the department members, he didn’t particularly respect them. “There’s plenty to choose from,” he said, running his fingers down his glass. “Unfortunately the Ministry doesn’t need a musician. What were you good at in school?” Brendan would probably need some sort of qualifications for any role at his place of work. “If you needed something I could maybe put a good word in?” He couldn’t really speak for his own department but his father had fingers in many pies and might have been able to speak to someone to help.
